James Ryan, county football player, resumed hurling coaching before the Easter holidays and hopefully he will be able to continue for most of the final term. We are waiting for a consignment of helmets to arrive through Cumann na mBunscoil. The hurling league will start soon after the school reopens and the games should get underway fairly promptly.
P.J. Quirke gave of his time to accompany the boys and manage them as a team in the schoolboys soccer league which was held in Rathkeale in April. They played four games in total each of fifteen minutes duration. As they are a very young team we regarded this outing as a training session for them and they enjoyed the day despite playing older boys.
First Penance took place on Wednesday 13th April. The pupils receiving First Holy Communion on 21st May are James Wolfe, Jeremy John Looby, Sophie Houlihan and Roisin Ryan.
Six pupils from the school were confirmed in Nicker Church on 5th April. Those confirmed were Ann Ryan, Michelle Ryan, John O’Donnell, Alan Hanley, Sean Savage and Conor O’Dwyer.
We are indebted to the many parents and friends who supported all these children throughout the year by their participation in parish masses as readers and as members of the choir. Congratulations to all the children. They participated fully in the ceremonies and carried out their duties to perfection.
A special word of thanks is due to the children who supported their friends by singing in the choir and we look forward to the same level of support for the children making their First Holy Communion in May.
The senior children traveled to Hospital to the transition year musical which featured past pupils Padraig Ryan, Aoife Burke and Christopher Alymer. As usual, they enjoyed the spectacle and the entertainment was up to the usual high standard.
