Community Games Art Winners

Congratulations are extended to Caoimhe W., Stephen, Lucy, Alyssa-Marie, Aisling O’C., Donnagh, Ciara, Micheál, Ayryn, Alfie, Jessica and Lily-Mai who all received medals in the Community Games Art Competition. Pupils from the U8 to U14 categories subsequently took part in the county competition and we are delighted to announce that Stephen was a winner in same. Very well done to all!

Bunratty Trip

All pupils visited Bunratty on Friday 8th February. Pupils were treated to a workshop in music, dance and art with the entertainers. They also toured the folk park and visited the great hall where they performed with the renowned Bunratty entertainers.

First Penance

Congratulations to Denis, Emma, Caoimhe G. and Andrea who received the Sacrament of First Penance in Templebraden Church on the evening of February 18th. Thanks are extended to Ms. Hickey and Fr. Burns for their work in preparing the children and also to Mr. Heffernan and all the pupils who sang in the choir. Second class pupils celebrated with hot chocolate and cookies in school on the following day!

CraftEd. Programme

Pupils from junior infants to third class are currently taking part in a craft programme in association with the Craft Council of Ireland entitled CraftEd. Our school has been designated a professional craftsperson, jewellery maker Fergus, who will visit our school over the coming weeks and work together with Ms. Hickey and the pupils in developing their skills in the area of craft.

“The Wedding Singer” and Cinema Trips

Senior pupils enjoyed a wonderful performance of “The Wedding Singer” in John the Baptist Community School on Friday last. We send congratulations to all involved in this wonderful performance. Meanwhile, junior pupils travelled to The Excel Cinema to see “How to Train your Dragon 3”. A most enjoyable day was had by all.

World Book Day

Pupils received book tokens this week in recognition of World Book Day. All classes enjoyed book-related games. Junior pupils made beautiful bookmarks, while senior pupils focussed work around characters.

Progress with Food Dudes Initiative

Pupils are reminded to continue to bring their fruit and vegetables to school each day. Pupils are to be commended on the steady progress being made in both classrooms. Huge congratulations are extended to Caoimhe Grace who is our first pupil to complete the Food Dudes programme. Very well done Caoimhe!

Lenten Assembly

Our Lenten Assembly will take place tomorrow, March 6th. Pupils will be taught about Ash Wednesday and will receive their Trócaire boxes. They will also receive a Lenten Calendar with little tasks to complete each day as we prepare to celebrate Easter.

Engineers’ Week Show

Second to sixth class pupils look forward to attending an Engineers’ Week Show in U.L. tomorrow, March 6th, entitled “Alice Perry’s Incredible Adventures.”

Spike Ball Tournament

Senior pupils will travel to U.L. on Thursday, March 7th, to represent our school in the County Spike Ball Tournament. Pupils are asked to wear their school tracksuits and runners and to bring their normal lunches and an extra drink. This is the first time that Garrydoolis N.S. has entered a team into this tournament, so we send very best wishes to our pupils.

Confirmation Practices

Confirmation candidates only will practice in Nicker Church on this Friday, March 8th, 12.45pm-2.30pm. Parents are kindly asked to collect pupils at 12.30pm from school and again at 2.30pm from Nicker Church. A further practice will take place for candidates and choir (third to sixth classes) on Tuesday, March 12th, from 12.30pm to 2.30pm. Pupils will travel to the church by bus and parents are kindly asked to collected children from Nicker Church at 2.30pm. Further practices will be communicated as soon as decided upon.We thank you sincerely for your cooperation and send every good wish to our pupils preparing for Confirmation.

Confirmation

Confirmation will take place in Nicker Church at 11am on Thursday 4th April. Third and fourth class pupils will sing in the choir on the day, while school will be closed for the junior pupils.

Seachtain na Gaeilge

Seachtain na Gaeilge will take place next week. There will be an even greater focus on gaeilge during the week through engagement with scéalta, drámaíocht, amhráin, ealaín, dánta, cómhrá agus cluichí. There will also be prizes up for grabs each day for those pupils deemed to be “Gaelgóirí and Lae.” “Green, White and Gold Day” will take place on Friday 15th, whereby all pupils will be invited to wear their colours and take part in our Céilí Mór!

Great Limerick Run Training Programme

We look forward to welcoming Limerick Sports Partnership back to Garrydoolis again this year. Running sessions will begin for all pupils on Thursday March 14th. Therefore, pupils are asked to wear their school tracksuits and runners on Thursdays and Fridays from Thursday 14th March to Friday 12th April.

Coffee Morning

Our Student Council will organise “Maidin Chaife” (coffee morning) on the 15th March. You are most cordially invited to join us at 9.15am and to share a cuppa… and maybe even “cúpla focail!”

St Patrick’s Day

School will be closed on Monday 18th March. We wish all families a very happy St. Patrick’s Day.

Primary Language Curriculum Day

Please note that school will also be closed on Tuesday 19th March, due to the New Primary Language Curriculum Day for teachers.

Family Mass

Our next Family Mass has been rescheduled for Sunday 24th March.

Easter Celebrations

Our Student Council has planned a Crazy Hair Day for Friday 12th April. Pupils are invited to be creative and wacky with their hairstyles on this day! They will also organise an egg hunt and Easter Egg raffle for the pupils. School will close for Easter holidays at 12.15pm on Friday 12th April.
