First Holy Communion

Best wishes are sent to Denis, Emma, Caoimhe G. and Andrea who will celebrate the sacrament of First Holy Communion at 11am on Saturday 11th of May in Templebraden Church. Thanks go to Ms. Hickey and to Fr. Burns for their work in preparing these children. Pupils in first, third, fourth, fifth and sixth classes will form the choir on the day. Practices will take place on Tuesday 7th and Wednesday 8th May. Pupils will travel to Templebraden Church by bus and should be collected there at 2.40pm please.

CraftEd

Pupils from junior infants to third class recently completed their CraftEd programme with Ms. Hickey. We enjoyed the visits of our craftsperson, Fergus, and thank him for his sharing of expertise. Pupils learned many new techniques during the production of their beautiful metal ornaments.

STEM Update

Our application for the Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths Plaque of Excellence has recently been submitted, so we await good news!

“In My Own Shoes”

Mary Dillon presented relationships and sexuality workshop entitled “In My Own Shoes” to fifth and sixth class pupils on Wednesday 1st May.

Local and European Elections

Please note that school will be closed on Friday 24th May, as the premises will be used as a polling station for the Local and European Elections.

Standardised Testing

Standardised testing for first to sixth classes will begin on May 22nd.  Results of Micra-T, Sigma-T and Drumcondra Spelling tests will be documented on end of year reports.

Cumann na mBunscoil 7-A-Side Hurling

We were delighted to welcome Ollie Coffey back to school over the last number of weeks for hurling training. Thanks go to Mr. Heffernan for all his work in preparing the team also. We look forward to the hurling blitz which will take place in Kilteely GAA Grounds at 1pm on Friday 17th May.

Science Blast

Senior pupils will attend Science Blast in Limerick on Tuesday 21st May. They will present their project which examines the effects of external factors on plant growth.

Parents’ Association News

Our Parents’ Association would like to inform you, with lots of notice, that they have organised a bag pack to take place in Dunnes, Tipperary Town, on Saturday 26th October 2019. Parental support is crucial if this event is to be a success, so we kindly ask parents to consider giving an hour or two on the day.

Shorts

We would like to remind you that pupils may wear grey uniform shorts for the month of June, if desired, whilst plain, non-branded navy shorts (jersey material) may be worn on P.E. days. School socks should be grey please.

School Tour

Anticipation is building around our trip to Fota Wildlife Park and Cobh Titanic Centre on Friday 7th June. Please be reminded that the bus will leave at 8am and return at 4.30pm approximately. All pupils should wear school tracksuit and runners and have a packed lunch and plenty of drinks with them. Pupils should not bring money as hot food is included in the tour package. We look forward to a most enjoyable day.

Active Week

Active Week will take place during the week beginning June 10th. Pupils are reminded to wear tracksuits each day. A range of activities are planned for this week including rugby, cycling, GAA, and activities with Limerick Sports Partnership. Pupils will also participate in the Fitkidz Walking Challenge during Active Week. This will involve pupils walking a combined total of ten kilometres. Senior pupils will walk the ring of Knockane, whilst junior pupils will complete a lap of the Community Walking Route in Knockane GAA Grounds, on both Monday 10th and Friday 14th June. Parent volunteers are kindly sought to accompany these walks. We will celebrate Sports Day on Friday 14th.

RSA Workshop

Naomi from the Road Safety Authority will present a road safety workshop to all pupils on Tuesday 11th June.

HB Ice Cream Party in aid of Down Syndrome Ireland

Our Student Council will host an ice cream party at 2pm on Friday 14th June. All monies raised will be donated to Down Syndrome Ireland and an invitation is extended to all families. We kindly ask that pupils bring a donation to school on the day and we look forward to the yummy ice-cream!

Book Rental, School Fees and School Calendar 2019/20

Booklists, summary of fees and calendar for the coming academic year 2019/20 will be distributed during the first week of June. As in previous years, we offer the option that book rental and fees may be paid in instalments during June, September and October. We kindly request that bills are fully paid by the Halloween break.

End of Year Reports

End of year reports will be distributed to parents after school on Thursday 13th of June. In line with Department and NCCA regulations, the education passport is being used to transfer information on sixth class pupils to their new secondary schools.

French Student

Senior Pupils look forward to welcoming a new classmate, Aubepine, all the way from France for the final week of term!

End of Year Liturgy and Graduation

Our Graduation ceremony will take place on Tuesday 18th June at 1pm in the senior classroom. This occasion will present an opportunity to reflect on the achievements of the past academic year and to send good wishes to our four second class pupils who are “stepping up” to the senior room and to our three sixth class pupils who are “stepping on” to secondary school. We also hope that our junior infants who will be “stepping in” next year will join us for this celebration. Refreshments will be served afterwards. We look forward to welcoming you all on this special occasion!

Summer Holidays

School will close for summer holidays on Friday 21st June at 12.15pm.
